"The martial arts movie Once Upon a Time in China is set in late 19th-century China, at a time when there has been a lot of social and political development. The narrative follows renowned doctor and martial artist Wong Fei-hung as he works through domestic struggle and foreign imperialism-related issues. Wong Fei-hung becomes a symbol of resistance and traditional Chinese ideals when the country's cultural identity and stability are threatened by a group of Westerners and dishonest Chinese authorities. Wong Fei-hung protects his people against persecution and injustice through a series of hard martial arts battles and moral issues. In the end, he demonstrates the power of honor, courage, and martial arts prowess in preserving Chinese history and dignity in the face of turbulent times."
