Un lugar aislado en medio del mar: una plataforma petrolífera, donde sólo trabajan hombres, en la que ha ocurrido un accidente. Una mujer que intenta olvidar su pasado (Sarah Polley) es llevada a la plataforma pere que cuide de un hombre (Tim Robbins) que se ha quedado ciego temporalmente. Hannah, who wears a hearing aid, is forced to go on holiday. On holiday she manages to find a job: caring for Josef, a burn victim on an oil rig who temporarily lost his sight, until he's stable enough to be transferred.
