18-year-old Ali is afraid to drive and afraid to fall in love. She has a mother, a neighbor, two girlfriends, and Julio - the "freaky" coworker at the supermarket where she works. Ali smokes constantly. "Don't trust anything you can't do while smoking", says Ali. Since she began smoking, her mother has had 5 boyfriends and 5 heartbreaks. Ali is in love with Julio but, in her head, it is much easier to continue living in her invulnerable world than to cross into Alice's.
