From case cover:<br/>Sulle note di una splendida colonna sonora firmata da Ennio Morricone, Lilliana Cavani ripercorre le trappe fondamentali del mito di Galileo Galilei, dalle prime scoperte scientifiche, sino all`abiura. Il film è stato due volte alla Mostra del Cinema di Venezia: ne 1968 e nel 2009, presentato nell`ambito della rassengna `Questi fantasmi`. Nato come progetto didattico per la Tv, è rimasto totalmente inedito sul piccolo schermo. Galileo Galilei, insegnante di fisca presso l'Università di Padova, riesce a perfezionare un cannocchiale olandese avuto in regalo, e si mette a osservare i corpi celesti. Dopo molto studiare, è raggiunto da un'illuminazione: è il Sole, e non la Terra, il centro della rotazione del pianeti. Fortemente avcersato dalla Chiesa, che lo condanna per eresia, nel 1633 si vede costretto a fare marcia indietro, perchè minacciato con la tortura.<br/><br/>From IMDb:<br/>A humble scientist from Padua proves that the Earth revolves and that it is not the center of the universe. He has few supporters and many enemies. When Giordano Bruno dies a martyr's death, Galileo exclaims: "Science needs scientists, not martyrs!" In order to preserve his discovery and continue his research he tries to make peace with the church but does not succeed. Slandered and misunderstood by his contemporaries, Galileo suffers the tragic isolation of men of genius the importance of whose lifework is recognized only by subsequent generations. |
