Martín Fierro es un gaucho que sobrevive en la pampa con su mujer e hijos, hasta que es reclamado para que acuda contra los indios y defender con las armas la frontera de Argentina. Después de tres años aquella lucha deja de tener sentido para Fierro y huye para reencontrarse con los suyos. Pero al llegar a su hacienda la encuentra abandonada y en ruinas. Desolado por no saber cuál es el destino de su familia, en una cantina principa en una riña que acaba con la muerte de un hombre a sus manos. Entonces debe escapar de la justicia y en su huida se encuentra con su amigo, el sargento Cruz y los dos buscan refugio entre los indios contra los que habían luchado pocos mese antes.<br/>Basado en la tradicional obra de José Hernández, Torre Nilsson recrea a la perfección el ámbito histórico donde se desarrolla la trama, y nos muestra las aventuras y desdichas de los que hicieron la patria, en una película sin precedentes en el cine argentino. |
