From case cover:<br/>Primi anni del Novecento. Su una nave da crociera Romano (Marcello Mastroianni) incontra Pavel, un russo in viaggio di nozze. Tra i due nasce una spontanea confidenza e Romano racconta del suo infelice matrimonio con una ricca borghese (Silvana Mangano) e della passione che, anni dopo, sboccerà tra lui ed una misteriosa russa incontrata alle Terme di Montecatini. Romano, che nella sua vita non ha mai osato, si lascia sfuggire l'ultima occasione di "riscatto" che l'amore gli offre. Non gli resta che il lavoro da cameriere su una nave per ricchi turisti e il ricordo di due grandi occhi neri (oci ciornie). From IMDb:<br/>Aboard a ship early in the 20th-century, a middle-aged Italian tells his story of love to a Russian. In a series of flashbacks filmed almost entirely in creams, whites, and ochers, the clownish and superfluous Romano Patroni leaves his wife's opulent home to visit a spa where he falls in love with a Russian woman whose marriage is a horror. He pursues her into the Russian heartland and returns to Italy resolved to leave his wife and marry his love. His amazed and appreciative Russian listener then narrates a shorter story. |
