From case cover:<br/>Nella tragedia, la magia della vita: per proteggere il proprio bambino dagli orrori della guerra un padre inventa per lui un gioco emozionante.<br/>Siamo in Toscana nella seconda metà degli anni Trenta. Guido (Roberto Benigni), un giovane ebreo pieno di allegria e vitalità, abbandona la campagna per cercare fortuna in città. Come accade nei più bei romanzi d'amore, Guido incontra la sua "principessa", Dora (Nicoletta Braschi) una maestrina fidanzata con un burocrate arrogante e pomposa. Guido se ne innamora follemente e la rapisce. Dal loro amore viene alla luce un bambino, Giosuè (Giorgio Cantarini). Ma la felicità della famiglia viene spezzata dalle leggi razziali contro gli ebrei: il giovane insieme alla moglie e al bambino viene deportato in un lager nazista.
