From case cover (English):<br/>A silent film about the youth of the leading German 18th century dramatist, poet, and literary theorist Friedrich Schiller (1759-1805). In 1773 he had to leave home and spent miserable years under strict discipline at the military academy of The Duke Karl Eugen, which only strengthened his longing for freedom. His first play "The Robbers" (1781) spoke of the ideas of liberty and became a landmark in German theater. Following the conventions of the silent movie era, the positive was tinted.<br/><br/>From case cover (German):<br/>Der an Oginialschauplätzen in Stuutgart gedrehte Stummfilm "Freidrich Schiller - Eine Dichterjugend beschreibt die Jahre des Ditchers an der Hohen Karlsschule, wo er mit seiner Aufsässigkeit auffällt Sein Zorn über die Ungerechtigkeiten des absolutistischen Herzogs Karl Eugen von Württemberg shlägt sich nieder in dem Theaterstück "Die Räuber", das Januar 1782 mit großwm Erfolg im Nationaltheater in Mannheim aufgeführt wird und Schiller in Stuttgart eine Gefängnisstrafe einbringt. <br/><br/>Die erste Filmregie des Schauspielers, Dramatikers, Regisseurs und Schriftstellers Curt Goetz erntet bei seiner Premiere Kritikerlob, weil Goetz es vermied, "Schiller zu pathetisieren" und stattdessen einen "humoristisch - anekdotischen Volksfilm" schuf (Herbert Ihering). Ser weitgehend vollständig erhaltene Film wurde vom Filmmuseum Müchen zum Schillerjahr 2005 restauriert. Die DVD enthält zudem bisher unveröffentlichte Szenen aus dem Originaldrenbuch, die im Film nichte enthalten sind. |
