Summary: "Marie-Clémence Andriamonta Paes' documentary Fahavalo explores the sad background of the 1947 Malagasy Uprising, which was an uprising against French colonial control in Madagascar. The video skillfully combines interviews with survivors, historical material, and reenactments to tell the little-known tales of the Fahavalo, a group of Malagasy liberation fighters. Through a moving story, Fahavalo explores themes of identity, resistance, and the lasting effects of colonialism on the collective memory of the Malagasy people while illuminating the tenacity and sacrifices made by those who battled for freedom."
