Summary: "Paul Gauguin feels that the atmosphere of 1891 Paris is suffocating him. Everything around him is so manufactured and traditional that he requires authenticity in order to reinvent his art. After failing to persuade his spouse Mette and his five kids to accompany him to Paradise Lost, he embarks on a solitary journey to Tahiti. Once there, he makes the decision to live in a hut built by locals in the village of Mataiera, which is remote from Papeete. He soon becomes deeply involved in his work, painting and carving in a manner reminiscent of the island's traditional primitive art. The artist will endure heart issues, poverty, and other hardships during his two-year stay, but he will also find happiness in the arms of Tehura, a stunning young native girl."
