In the 62nd year of his life, Arthur Schnitzler, the important Viennese playwright and storyteller, wrote the story of a young girl who has to sacrifice her virtue in order to save her father from financial and social ruin. He tells this in an unusual way: as a monologue. The girl reports to herself, speaking inwardly, what is happening to her, what comes to her, what she is feeling and considering in her most secret ways.
